Lars Edvinsson – pioneering research in the field of vascular neuroscience

Edvince’s drug development is based on Professor Lars Edvinsson’s pioneering research in the field of vascular neuroscience. Edvinsson is an internationally renowned scientist working with experimental vascular physiology and neuroscience. With more than 1,000 scientific publications in reputable journals, Lars Edvinsson is one of the most cited individuals in his field. His research has led to the authorisation of seven FDA-approved drugs for migraine treatment, including Aimovig (Amgen/ Novartis), Ajovy (Teva), Emgality (Eli Lilly) and Vyepti (Lundbeck), as well as small molecules such as Atogepant (Abbvie) and Rimegepant (Pfizer), all of which are approved in Sweden by the Medical Products Agency (LV), in the EU by the EMA and in the USA by the FDA.

In 2021, Professor Lars Edvinsson was awarded the Lundbeck Foundation Brain Prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize in Neurology and Neuroscience”, in recognition of his ground- breaking discoveries regarding the role of CGRP in migraine – a mechanism that has changed the treatment landscape globally.

Having achieved great success in the field of migraine, Edvinsson has been working in parallel to apply the same scientific strategies in the fields of stroke and acute brain injury. To achieve clinical success, Lars Edvinsson created the company Edvince. The company’s drug platform is based on inhibition of the MEK/ERK1/2 signalling pathway – an area where Edvinsson’s research has once again opened the door to completely new treatment options for an illness field where we currently lack good opportunities to reduce damage after stroke.
